Accelerating Apple Pay and Google Pay for Magento

Adyen needed to accelerate delivery of modern express payment methods within Magento Commerce. GENE extended the Adyen Magento module to support Apple Pay and Google Pay Express journeys designed specifically for basket, minicart and product detail pages.

The original Google Pay flow introduced unnecessary friction through an additional review step. We redesigned the checkout experience to remove the review page entirely, streamline shipping selection directly inside Google Pay and create a faster path from intent to purchase.

Bringing express payments into the product page experience

To improve payment presentment and reduce checkout abandonment, we introduced Apple Pay and Google Pay buttons directly onto Product Detail Pages. The implementation dynamically created quotes in real time, enabling customers to purchase immediately from PDP without unnecessary navigation steps.

A major part of the project focused on platform compatibility and technical modernisation. We updated the integration to support Magento 2.4.x, PHP 8.x and Adyen v8 while resolving API compatibility issues, dependency conflicts and frontend architecture limitations.

Exploring Amazon Pay Express integration

Alongside Apple Pay and Google Pay, GENE investigated how Amazon Pay could integrate into the Adyen Express Checkout ecosystem. The proposed implementation aligned Amazon Pay with existing express payment architecture, allowing merchants to surface wallet options consistently across PDP, cart and minicart experiences.
