Built on ReactJS for speed and performance, the checkout conveniently bundles express checkout options, basket editing, login, delivery options and payment information, resulting in higher conversion rates and enhanced customer experience.
Quick Add-to-cart functionality helps users get to purchase quicker. To do this, we designed a PLP with product variants in grid view on every product card. This provides a consistent and convenient experience as users fill the baskets for further consideration, or purchase.

We implemented a Click and Collect option on the checkout page, bringing thousands of collection points across the country, thanks to an integration with CollectPlus.

By building Vivactive’s checkout on Vue.js we were able to make use of components for a more considered architecture and more control over the UI/UX.
And crucially – faster page load speed.
We tested various prototypes to make some key decisions on design, enabling us to minimise the amount of user interaction, and improving both conversion rate and customer satisfaction.
Fast, mobile optimised and, oh…headless
Party Delights had a number of complex use-cases for their checkout including calculating helium required for any balloons in the basket and nominated day deliveries.
We used our GENE Checkout framework, built on composable architecture, and optimised specifically for mobile to develop a checkout that loads fast, is simple to complete, and offers all the main mobile wallet payments options you can think of.
Magento API Customisation
GENE Commerce embarked on a project in collaboration with Pennies, aimed at tailoring their Magento API to align with Choice Shops’ specific requirements. The objective was to seamlessly integrate a Pennies donation block into the checkout process of Choice Shops’ Incontinence Choice and Age UK Incontinence websites, strategically positioned just before the payment step.
One of the key customizations involved incorporating a Pennies donation block, offering Choice Shops’ customers the flexibility to either donate a set amount to Age UK through a free text field or opt for a “round-up” donation based on their total order value. Responding to Choice Shops’ request, GENE added a CMS block within the Pennies block, allowing Choice to convey a personalised message, explaining their choice of a particular charity.
Speedy Checkout Integration
To optimise the checkout speed and ensure a smooth user experience, GENE developed a bespoke GENE module for Pennies. This module allows all necessary calculations within Magento, eliminating the need for multiple calls to the Pennies API upon each checkout, a process that could potentially slow down the checkout procedure.
Through these meticulous customisations and integrated solutions, GENE Commerce successfully enhanced the donation experience within the checkout process, demonstrating the agency’s commitment to tailoring innovative solutions for their clients and optimising the user journey while contributing to charitable causes.
